In the wake of recent failures of immigration reform proposals, the Bush administration is changing its methodology of enforcement of current legislation. Changes include an increase in fines for employers who hire illegal aliens, criminal charges against those who fail to fire employees without legitimate social security numbers, and various other efforts as noted in the AP article. The changes are to be announced today in a press conference with Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff and Commerce Secretary Carlos Gutierrez.
